  费维扬教授长期从事化工分离科学和技术的研究和教学工作,学风严谨,教书育人。针对能源、资源和环保等领域国民经济建设的迫切需要,在萃取、吸收等传质分离设备的数学模型、设计放大和性能强化等方面进行了系统的研究。例如采用计算流体力学(CFD)模拟与先进测试技术(如LDV和DPIV等)相结合的方法,深入研究液-液两相流的传递现象并对一些化工难题进行故障诊断,提出了多种改进分离设备性能的有效途径,推动了过程强化和国外引进技术的消化、吸收和再创新。近年来,面对全球气候变化的严峻挑战,开展了CO2捕集新技术的研究。研究成果曾获国家科技发明奖、国家科技进步奖和国家专利创造发明金奖各一项,省(部)级科技进步奖十四项,发明专利十项。获奖项目的年经济效益逾亿元。发表论文200余篇。指导了30余名博士生和硕士生。参加编写的主要著作和手册有《液-液萃取过程和设备》,《溶剂萃取手册》,《石油化工设计手册》和《中国大百科全书·化工卷》等。

  现任中国生态经济学会副理事长、中国生态经济学会循环经济专业委员会主任、中国化工协会理事、英国皇家化学会理事、《中国化学工程学报》主编、《化学工程》副主编,“IEC Research”顾问委员会委员等。
