　　Ensuring that your patients thoroughly understand any nursing care or medical treatment that you are planning to provide them is not only an effective way of minimizing their anxiety, but also is more likely to result in their compliance with therapeutic instructions. Health professionals who just suddenly come to the patient an d start performing healthcare procedures without any explanation can stimulate great & unnecessary stress for them.

　　应保证病人彻底理解给他提供的所有护理和治疗。这不仅是一种有效减轻病人焦虑的方法，而且很大程度上会使他们遵守治疗指导。那些只是突然地来到病人面前，没有任何解释就开始医疗保健操作的医疗保健人员，可以使病人产生很大的和不必要的压力。

　　On the other hand, don't automatically treat patients as if they are all ill informed! First find out what they actually do know about a topic so that you can focus your education in a more relevant manner to their individual needs. As per Guideline 4, explanations must be given in layperson targeted language, and if you are in any doubt that the patient hasn't properly understood you then you should test their understanding using the method suggested in Guideline 6.
