　　2.词类的转换

　　在翻译中忌讳“对号入座”，逐字硬译，而需要适当改变一些词性，即把原文中属于某种词类的词在译文中转换成另一类词，有时甚至换成从句。以下介绍几种常见的词类转换现象。

　　Sample 8

　　原文：You will have the freedom to enjoy the profits of your own work，and the continuing growth and profit which comes from owning your own business.Good luck and enjoy the journey.

　　译文：你将能享有为自己的工作赚取利润的自由，享有从自己拥有的实业中产生的持续的增长和所得利润。祝你幸运，旅途愉快!

　　Note：

　　把英语中的名词the profits译为动宾短语“赚取利润”。把英语中的“形容词+名词”的短语the continuing growth and profit译为持续的增长和所得利润。再把Good luck and enjoy the journey译为

　　“祝你幸运，旅途愉快”都是翻译中词类转换的例子。

　　Sample 9

　　原文：All this means that the volume of information we're going to ask our networks and computers to handle is going to increase exponentially. If every frying and vending machine has sensors, just imagine the volumes of data washing' around. Lots of it will be low-level, so we will need machines to interact with other machines so that we can do something more interesting than keep track of it all.

　　译文：这一切都意味着我们要网络和计算机处理的信息量将成倍增加。如果每一台油炸机和售货机都装上传感器，可以想象四处流动的数据量会有多么大。这些数据大都是低层次的，可以由机器彼此互动去处理，让我们能够做一些比随时掌握这些数据更有趣的事情。

　　Note：

　　在这段英译汉短文中，静态词has sensors译为“装上传感器”。the volumes译为“数据量会有多么大”。data washing' around译为“四处流动的数据”。need machines to interact with other machines 译为“可以由机器彼此互动去处理”。keep track of it all译为“随时掌握这些数据”。以上都是灵活处理词类翻译的例子。

　　Sample 10

　　原文：现在已给该城市的科学家们提供了必要的图书、仪器和助手，以保证科研工作的顺利进行。

　　译文：Scientists in that city are now supplied with necessary books，equipment and assistants，which will ensure success in their scientific research.

　　Note：

　　将汉语的“以保证科研工作的顺利进行”这个目的状语译为定语从句。把汉语的“名词词组+动词”“工作的顺利进行”译为名词success。

　　Sample 11

　　原文：而近50年，只有为数不多的发明。难道发明的源泉枯竭了吗?答案并非如此。事实上，发明的新时代刚刚开始。

　　译文：However，only a few inventions have been made in the recent years.Is the source of invention dried up? The answer is no.In fact，a new era of invention is just beginning.

　　Note：

　　在此，把“只有为数不多的发明”译为only a few inventions have been made。“并非如此”译为绝对否定词“no”。“刚刚开始”这一动作概念译为英语的现在进行时“is just beginning”。

　　Sample 12

　　原文：我国科学研究发展的特点是理论联系实际。

　　译文：The development of scientific research in our country is characterized by the combination of theory with practice.

　　Note：

　　将汉语的“特点是”译为英语的被动式谓语is characterized by。

　　尽管在汉译英中，比较普遍的现象是汉语动词转换成英语名词，但也有相反的情况，即汉语的名词转换为英语的动词。与此同时，原来修饰该名词的形容词也常随之而转换成英语的副词，作为状语来修饰由汉语名词转换成的英语动词。
