　　1. nothing but

　　W: How dare you be so rude to me!

　　M: I'm so sorry. I didn't really mean to hurt you. It's nothing but a joke!

　　【解析】

　　女士说：“你怎么敢对我如此粗鲁!” How dare you do sth. 这个句型表达说话人的愤怒和不满，意思是“你怎么敢……”。男士道歉说没想伤害这位女士，这只是一个玩笑而已。nothing but的含义是“仅仅”。

　　2. anything but

　　W: I heard you went to Pairs for holidays last week. I believe it was bound to be a wonderful trip!
